FAQ - LED Bulbs and Downlights

Where can I purchase NEPTUN LED products?

Information and pricing for all NEPTUN LED products are available from the NEPTUN Distributors listed on our website. The Locate Distributor section has a list of all NEPTUN Distributors and sections broken out by the type of customer they service - Lighting Distributors (Branches), Retail Stores, and Online Distributors. NEPTUN Sales Representatives/Agents serve Commercial/Wholesale Accounts in their local territories.   The Where to Buy” and “Agent Locator” links on the website show the locations of some but not all NEPTUN distributors and reps.

What makes the NEPTUN lights meaningful?

The fact that they weren't developed purely with profits in mind; they were designed to better our quality of life using state-of-the-art solid state technology for lighting that is bright, safe and highly energy efficient.

What makes the NEPTUN LED light practical?

The fact that they make good sense when compared to conventional incandescent floodlights - they're an easy drop-in replacement, and are more cost-effective and energy-efficient.

What makes the NEPTUN LED lights green?

The fact that they are 100% recyclable, fully sustainable.  Unlike incandescent and compact fluorescent floodlights  the NEPTUN LED lights do not contain any harmful gases especially toxic mercury,  That means they will not leach harful poisons into the earth and atmosphere.  Being 100% recyclable, they should never end up in a landfill

Where can I use the NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs?

The NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs are UL and CE approvad for both indoor and outdoor use. In outdoor settings, water must be prevented from contacting the electrical socket, either by aiming the light downward or by using a rubber seal. Water will have no effect on the fins or glass lens. The LED light engine is sealed to protect it from water damage.

What types of fixtures can I use with the NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs?

In indoor settings, the NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs can be used in track lighting, open ended recessed cans, hanging pendants, ceiling fans, and many directional fixtures for use in wall washing and accent lighting. In outdoor settings, the NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs can be used in many security lighting or flood lighting fixtures, down-lighting, up-lighting (socket protected by rubber seal), wall washing, and accent lighting fixtures.

What restrictions are there in using the NEPTUN R30 Series LED light?

The NEPTUN Series LED light bulbs can be used in a totally enclosed fixture, such as a glass globe, or floor lights covered by glass, but the size of the enclosed fixture must be at least 2 times larger than the bulb size. The reason for these restrictions is due to heat buildup in the enclosure. If the air becomes too hot, the light will overheat and reduce its light output, and shorten its life.  Please make sure you tell the distributor if you will be using the light in a recessed can as the light needs to be de-rated to 10 Watts for a 5" or 6" recessed can or to 8 Watts for a 4" recessed can.  If you do not use a de-rated light in a recessed can the warranty will not no longer be valid.

Are the NEPTUN LED R30 Series lights dimmable?

Yes, the NEPTUN LED Series light bulbs are dimmable with most standard commercial and residential dimmers.

Are the NEPTUN LED Series Down Lights dimmable?

Yes, the NEPTUN Series Down Lights are dimmable with most standard commercial and residential dimmers and have a very smooth, even dim.

Is the light from the Warm White LED Floodlight identical to incandescent light?

Not exactly, but very close. There may be some small differences in the tone of the light. Also, colors in objects lit by LED light will appear more vibrant. Reds, blues, and greens will appear more vivid. This often enhances the mood of a room or artwork. In some cases, users may not wish to have more vibrant colors, but by blending incandescent light with LED light, a gentle balance can be reached.

What if I do not like the LED Floodlights, can I return them?

We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. Within 30 days of your purchase, if you are not satisfied, you may either exchange them for a different style of light, or return the lights for a full refund (not including shipping charges). Simply submit a "RMA - Return Material Authorization" Request Form located in the Customer Service section of this website and describe the problem, and an NEPTUN representative will promptly respond with a RMA number to return the light. NEPTUN does charge a 20% restocking fee for lights returned within 30 days of purchase. Unfortunately, shipping fees cannot be refunded.

What if the LED Floodlight is broken during shipping?

This is highly unlikely. The NEPTUN LED Floodlights have survived drops from 9 feet in the air onto concrete. As long as the delivery truck does not run over the package, we are quite sure your order will arrive safely.  However, if there is damage please contact us using the "RMA - Return Material Authorization" Request Form found in the Customer Service section of this website.

Is the NEPTUN Floodlight guaranteed against vibration?

Yes, vibration will not affect the life of the NEPTUN LED Floodlights. If an NEPTUN LED Floodlight should fail within the warranty period, contact us using the "RMA - Return Material Authorization" Request Form found in the Customer Service section of this website.

Is the NEPTUN Floodlight guaranteed against drops and hard strikes?

Well, let's be reasonable. It is extremely durable, but not indestructible. If a returned Floodlight shows signs of deliberate damage, we will not be able to provide a free replacement.

The LED bulb fins look cool, do they serve another purpose?

The primary purpose for the fins is for cooling. LEDs are semiconductor based, which means that they must be kept "cool" in order to have a long life, just like the CPU in your computer. The fins provide a large surface area, from which excess heat is "converted" or absorbed by the air. The technical term for this process is called natural convection.

Does the color of the fin make a difference?

No, the fin color does not make a difference to the light output. We offer several fin colors for you to choose that will work best with you application and fixture. You may want the light to blend in with the fixture or background; or you may want use dark charcoal grey to make a bold statement and use contrasting color.

Does the Floodlight get hot?

Hot is a relative term. Arizona summers are hot, and the sun is hot, but there is quite a difference between them. Incandescent lights get hot enough to burn your skin (first or second degree burn depending on how long you are in contact with it). Halogen bulbs are hotter, and likely to give a second or third degree burn. The NEPTUN LED Floodlights are best described as warm to uncomfortably warm. They will not burn your fingers, and could be touched when still on (NEPTUN always recommends that the power is turned off when changing lights).

But I thought that LEDs have no heat.

This is a common misperception. LEDs are more efficient than incandescent lights, which mean that more light is produced (or less energy is wasted as heat). Many people do not realize that there is heat given off from small LEDs, but this is because so little power is used. Low power, low light output, low heat (almost imperceptible). But the NEPTUN LED Floodlight typical uses 15W of power to create enough light for general illumination, and a portion of this energy is given off as heat..

Just how long is 50,000 hours?

50,000 hours lit for 24 hours per day will last over 5 and a half years.
50,000 hours lit for 12 hours per day will last for over 11 years.
50,000 hours lit for 8 hours per day will last for over 17 years.
50,000 hours lit for 4 hours per day will last for over 34 years.

Is there a European version (operates at 220V - 240V AC)?
